Tired of running boring 5K’s? Wish you had a few more paint explosions along your trek to the finish line?
Well, you’re in luck.
A new “paint race phenomenon” is wending its way across the U.S., inviting people of all speeds, ages, shapes and sizes to take part in a colorful run.
How it Works
For about $40, runners and walkers in pristine white clothing can participate in a race where they are blasted with “color dust” at each kilometer, according to thecolorrun.com.
A final color explosion waits at the finish line, of course.
“By the end, [the runners] look like they fell into a Willy Wonka ... tie-dyed ... vat of colored goodness,” the creators say.
Color Dust
So, what is this elusive “color dust?”
The run organizers say it’s “basically food-grade cornstarch” that is 100% natural and safe. So it’s not actual paint. (Whew. Could you imagine?)
Nevertheless, the powdered runs seem to have garnered quite the following. Reports say that some events attract more than 10,000 runners.
A Run Near You
Irvine, CA; Philadelphia, PA; and Austin, TX, are among the cities that have already hosted such runs this year.
Upcoming locations include Boise, ID; Oahu, HI; and Orlando, FL. A full location and date list are available here.
The organizers donate funds from the run to charity organizations in each city that participates.
Run or Party?
Which do you prefer? Colorful runs or paint soirees?
The application techniques appear to be similar in both events; certified applicators are probably not required.
