Painting elephants and monkeys are novel, but at least they don’t watch you in your sleep. A new breed of painters does.

Last week, we told you about elephants, monkeys and other species known to wield a paintbrush. But now, we want to alert you to something a little more advanced and maybe even creepy—a painting robot.

Eighty sensors installed on hotel beds will monitor and transfer movement, sound and temperature data to the painting robot.

Sure, robots have been painting in factories for years. But we’re not talking about those mechanical functionaries; we’re talking about robots who are taking their painting skills into the bedroom.

Your bedroom, perhaps.

‘Transferring Your Sleep to Canvas’

The Ibis Hotels chain has a few of these robotic artists on hand and will be installing them in five hotels in London, Paris and Berlin between Oct. 13 and Nov. 23, in order to paint its guests while they sleep, according to the company’s Facebook page. The promotion invites guests to win a Sleep Art Night.

The “unique new experience... combines technology and art,” according to Ibis. “You drift off, our robot awakens... Transferring your sleep to canvas live throughout the night.”

25 Lucky Winners

As part of its “Sleep Art Project,” Ibis is inviting 25 guests to sleep on beds equipped to wirelessly monitor and transmit movement, sound and temperature data to the painting robot, who works out of a remote art studio in Paris.

The data are “converted into color and brush movements” on a black canvas, the company says.

Want more? Viewers can also watch the robot paint live, visit him in his studio as he works, or browse canvases of completed works.

“Make your sleep a work of art,” the company says in this video

The robots will use the nocturnal signals and acrylic paints to create the art.

So, what do you say? Ready to book your room?

Went to look at the art via the link, and they apparently force you to increase their "like" counter to do anything on the site. Heck with that. Anyway, neat article.

The link didn't make me "like" anything... seems to be working now

Perhaps you're logged into Facebook. Still wants me to hit "like" to see the gallery.
