Jennifer Kramer, the editor of Coatings Pro Magazine and a NACE-certified coating inspector, has been named Editor-in-Chief of Durability + Design Magazine.
The appointment, effective Sept. 10, will put Kramer at the helm of the two-year-old print publication, which serves 20,000 architects, specifiers, contractors, and facility owners with in-depth features, news and analysis on architectural coatings and related materials.

Durability + Design Magazine is published six times a year by Technology Publishing Co. of Pittsburgh, which provides a suite of digital and print information platforms and services serving the entire spectrum of the global coatings industry.
Technology Publishing also publishes D+D News and hosts www.durabilityanddesign.com, the portal for the architectural coatings industry.
‘Wealth of Knowledge’
Kramer succeeds Joe Maty, who led D+D Magazine since its founding in 2010. D+D News and durabilityanddesign.com are led by Mary E. Chollet.
“We are delighted to attract someone of Jen’s caliber to Durability + Design,” said Peter Mitchel, president of Technology Publishing Co. “Her knowledge of the issues involving architectural coatings and related building materials will ensure that D+D remains the most authoritative voice serving the industry.”
Kramer’s vast experience will ensure continuation of the high-quality content that Durability + Design readers have come to expect, said publisher Sharon Steele. “We couldn’t have found a better fit to continue to deliver the excellent content that sets D+D apart,” Steele said.
Harold Hower, founder and CEO of Technology Publishing, said Kramer “brings a wealth of knowledge to D+D about coating work, and she has a keen appreciation for specifiers and contractors as they solve hard problems with coatings, which she likes to describe in colorful case histories.”
Industry Veteran
Kramer has been editor of Coatings Pro, owned by NACE International, since March 2005. Early in her tenure there, Kramer gained—and still retains—certification as a NACE Level 1 Coating Inspector.
Kramer’s Coatings Pro leadership followed 15 years of experience with other publishing ventures. She was founding editor and editorial director of SprayFoam Magazine and served three years as editor of Expression, an international art magazine that won an Ozzie Award from Folio Magazine.
Kramer holds bachelor’s degrees in English/American Literature and Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.
“Durability + Design is widely known as the source for information on architectural coatings,” Kramer said. “I have been a fan since the first issue. Now, I am excited and honored to be at the helm and to be part of the Technology Publishing family.”
Said Steele: “Jen’s talent, industry knowledge, and passion are the perfect qualities to develop and expand D+D Magazine into the future … starting with an increased number of issues in 2013. Stay tuned for good things to come.”
