With the start of the American football season merely days away, our neighbors up north are trying to get our attention with hockey and paint. Well, more paint than hockey.
It’s the off season for hockey, of course, but that didn’t stop the Toronto Maple Leafs from posting a live-streaming video on its website Wednesday (Aug. 29), inviting fans to “watch paint dry live.”

That’s right: The stadium crew painted the ice pad at the Air Canada Centre and recorded the process for the entire world to see. They even posted a recap for “Leafs Nation” to “relive” the exciting experience Thursday (Aug. 30.)
As one might expect, bloggers, sports reporters and fans are having a field day with the painting event across the web.
The buzz includes:
• “Literally, watching paint dry.”
• “Hey, I hear the leafs just traded the brand new paint that dried on their ice to Boston for some older more expensive paint.”
• “Maple Leafs fans can now tune in to a live feed of the ACC being painted & watch ice & paint dry? Guess its better than watching the team!”
• “#Leafs are live streaming the painting of the ice at #ACC. Highlight of the season!”
Don’t know about you, but we prefer the time-lapse version that was posted Thursday.
Maybe the Leafs are on to something here. Isn’t it about time for a painting reality show?
