The Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District awarded an $84,700 contract to Service Painting Corp. of Milwaukee to clean and coat roof surfaces at the ballpark.

The BASE Group, of Arvada, CO, was awarded a separate $39,925 contract for coating certain roof panels.

Service Painting’s portfolio includes decorative, commercial, restorative and industrial projects.

The BASE Group specializes in surface preparation and coating structures of height, including wind towers, roller coasters, high-rise buildings, and stadiums.

Brewers’ Stadium

The 11-year-old ballpark seats 41,900 and is home to Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers. The organization calls the park the largest construction project in the state’s history.

According to the Brewers’ official website, the stadium’s brick façade and structural elegance offer fans a glimpse into baseball’s romantic past.

“Intimate proximity to the players, natural grass and a unique configuration separate this ballpark from any in the world,” the website says.

The ballpark also features a fan-shaped convertible roof, reported as the only one of its kind in North America. The 12,000-ton, seven-panel roof structure can open and close in 10 minutes, the website says.

The Project

The project includes cleaning and coating select roof trusses and box chords, concrete track beams and corroded metal roof deck surfaces

Metals are to be hand-tool (Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC)-SP2), power-tool (SSPC-SP 3) and/or abrasive-blast cleaned (SSPC-SP 6) and coated with moisture-cure urethane systems, according to the bid documents.

In addition, the concrete surfaces must be cleaned (SSPC-SP 13) and stained with a water-based system.
