On Oct. 15, 28 buildings along the city’s downtown streets were painted with hundreds of gallons of exterior paint contributed by The Home Depot and Behr Paint. In addition, two large murals were created on downtown structures.
One of the murals depicts famous individuals from the city, including comedian Jack Benny and novelist Ray Bradbury. Both murals were commissioned by Delilah’s show with Richard Walski of Seattle as the main artist, according to a Sun Times report.
“It thrills my heart to work in Waukegan with listeners and friends there,” Delilah said. “A city so rich in history with a beautiful downtown that’s welcoming art galleries and restaurants—that's a place I want to be, to help in our way and bring this gift to the city.”
About the Program
The radio personality created the community project Paint the Town to inspire consumers and listeners of her show to invest resources in their respective hometowns and neighborhoods and instill a sense of pride in the places they call home.

Waukegan is the third city to receive the gift; over the past two years, Delilah has brought the community “paint party” to Belleville, Ill., and Port Orchard, Wash.
The city of Waukegan was selected from a group of candidate cities based on its civic pride and the physical characteristics that make the project possible, she said.
Delilah is syndicated by Premiere Networks on more than 200 radio stations in the U.S. Her program includes storytelling, advice and adult contemporary soft rock, according to her website.
