Bayer MaterialScience introduced EcoBay™ closed-cell (CC) spray polyurethane foam insulation, formulated specifically for commercial buildings and reported to provide a continuous air barrier that meets ASHRAE 90.1 building standards.
The insulation is reported to possess an aged thermal resistance, or R-value, of 6.9 per inch. When sprayed onto the surface to be insulated, the SPF expands to seal building penetrations such as masonry ties, plumbing and conduit, helping to more completely seal the structure and serving as an integral component of an effective air-barrier system, the company says.
When sprayed at a minimum thickness of 1 inch, the SPF also serves as a Class II vapor retarder. It also can improve sound attenuation and add structural strength, and qualifies as a low-emitting material under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system, the company says. The product also is registered with the Air Barrier Association of America.
Renee Zierden, general manager, Bayer MaterialScience LLC Spray Insulation and Roofing Materials, said that when installed properly, the product functions as “an effective vapor retarder, air barrier and moisture management system all in one product.”
Bayer MaterialScience manufactures spray foam wall insulation and roofing insulation and a line of specialty coatings used for thermal and moisture protection, roofing, waterproofing, abrasion resistance, and other applications.
