JSP Ltd.’s FilterSpec personal protective equipment—a combination of safety glasses with respiratory mask—has been named the winner of a 2011 Frost & Sullivan North America New Product Innovation Award.
The product was launched in the first half of 2010 by UK-based JSP Ltd. and “addresses one of the most long-standing challenges faced by the industry—that of 'fit',” Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Anamika Chaudhuri said in announcing the prize. “In addition to overcoming the problem associated with the incompatibility between safety eyewear and a respiratory protective mask, the product has solved problems related from poor face fit such as leakage and fogging of the lens interrupting the normal flow of work.”
The equipment combines the respiratory mask with safety glasses or goggles in such a manner that both devices function efficiently, independently and in harmony as a unit, JSP Ltd. says.
The lens used in the safety eyewear is a one-piece design that ensures optimal coverage and is anti-mist and anti-scratch, and the spectacle frame is fully adjustable, the company says. The respiratory mask holder and filter, including an integral exhaust valve, weigh less than 60 grams, and the exhale valve is reported to offer filter-element longevity and reduction in heat and carbon-dioxide buildup.
