Scott Paint Company of Sarasota, Fla., signed a term contract with the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (Fla.) to recycle latex paint as part of the Authority’s Household Hazardous Waste program. The 1-year-term contract, which includes options to extend the agreement for two additional years, has an estimated annual value of $50,000.
The Authority collects latex paint from households and conditionally exempt small quantity generators in Palm Beach County in order to promote the reuse and recycling of latex paint and the distribution of recycled content paint products for local commerce.
Scott Paint will pick-up and recycle surplus paints at a rate of $0.18 per pound and deliver reprocessed latex paint for use by the Authority or its customers at a rate of $2.50 per gallon. The owner anticipates recycling an estimated 150,000 pounds of surplus paint and purchasing an estimated 10,000 gallons of reprocessed paint.

The recycled latex paint shall be of comparable quality to a new exterior paint, shall contain a minimum of 50% post-consumer recycled content, and must include material safety data sheets.
