American Clay Enterprises Inc. (Albuquerque, N.M.) says its new PlasterPlus™ binder for the company’s line of earthen plasters provides a hard but repairable no-VOC interior wall finish.
The binder is sold dry in 27-lb. lots through select commercial distributors, and is designed for use in commercial projects such as healthcare, hospitality, educational, and big-build residential structures.
The polymer binder contains no VOCs or formaldehyde, is described as mold resistant and easy to apply, and can contribute to credits in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects, the company says.
The binder can be added to the company’s single-coat commercial Enjarreä and other color-integral premium products to produce a hard surface finish. Performance characteristics also are reported to include economical cost; extended service life; fade resistance due to presence of natural mineral pigments; spray application in one- or two-coat systems; and reduced waste generation during application.
Plaster containing the binder can be wetted and reworked after application without the use of additional binder, the company says. Visual and textural possibilities are described as “unlimited.”
The company’s CEO and co-founder, Croft Elsaesser, said development of the product involved “a year of rigorous in-house testing and third-party verification on VOC and formaldehyde levels to assure our team that we had a superior material to provide to large-scale builders and developers.”
American Clay says it produces patented, all-natural interior wall-finishing products composed of a combination of clays, aggregates and natural pigments. More information: www.americanclay.com.
