Middlesex County, NJ accepted bids on September 27, 2010 for cleaning and painting of stairs and railings on two buildings at the Middlesex County Fire Academy. Helios Construction, Inc. of Ocean, NJ submitted the winning bid at $19,562.
The fire academy consists of 26 acres of land in Sayreville, NJ. Since opening in 1992, the academy has trained several thousand New Jersey firefighters and emergency response personnel. Besides an amphitheatre and administrative building, the grounds include a 3-story burn building, a 5-story training tower, a flammable liquid training area, flammable gas area, vehicle extrication area, various confined space training areas, a hazardous material and industrial training area, and a drafting pond.

The project includes cleaning and coating metal stairs and railings on the 5-story training tower, as well as cleaning and coating pipe railings on a second building. The metal will be hand and power tool cleaned (SSPC-SP 2 and SP 3) and recoated with a high-solids universal metal primer and a high-gloss urethane finish.
