The 2011 Concrete Décor Show and Spring Training will include more than 80 presentations and workshops on decorative concrete, the event’s organizers said in announcing preliminary plans for the show and conference.
The event is scheduled for March 15-18, 2011, in Nashville, Tenn. Durability + Design is a media partner for the program, and is organizing a conference session.
“Decorative concrete has emerged as its own industry within the larger construction marketplace,” said Brett Mikkelsen, producer of the event. He said the conference and exhibition will be expanded from the first event, held in March of this year in Phoenix. Mikkelsen said scheduling for the conference will be changed to avoid conflict with trade-show hours.
Plans for the 2011 show include a “Designer Day” featuring technical and creative presentations and continuing-education courses tailored for architects, designers, and specifiers.
Also planned in connection with hands-on training workshops will be a major community-service project, a “Decorative Concrete Makeover” for the youth community center Rocketown. The project will be developed in a design charette, an architectural tradition of designers joining together to address important challenges. Selected designs will be executed in show workshops, led by decorative-concrete artisans and experts. Materials for the projects will be donated by national manufacturers and local suppliers.
