An epoxy floor system with a custom mix of colors supplies extra octane to the 1950s-era theme at the Cohn Restaurant Group’s Corvette Diner in San Diego’s Liberty Station. The restaurant owners sought a lively but durable floor composition for the new diner location.
As installed by Life Deck of San Diego, the Westcoat Specialty Coating Systems flooring system is composed of a custom mix of colors including pink, black, and white, with decorative chips broadcast in the surface. Working with Design Perspectives, the contractor was able to create unique patterns, including eye-catching curves, circles, and pink and white checkerboards.
Due to the poor condition of the original floors, Life Deck installers first patched the cracks and leveled areas with Westcoat’s EC-72 Epoxy Gel. Following additional surface preparation, the Westcoat Epoxy Slurry System was installed to build up, level, and strengthen the floors. For color and decorative effects, the EC-34 Epoxy was applied, followed by the EC-31 Clear and EC-95 Clear Polyurethane Top Coat for gloss and protection. The result: a cool, ‘50s-style, chemical-resistant epoxy floor.
“Westcoat has been installed at several Cohn Restaurant Group locations in the past, but this coating installation was our greatest challenge,” said Paul Koury, Westcoat president. “A customized system was required to meet the durability needs of a high-traffic restaurant while creating a decorative, fun finish that complemented the distinctive 1950s theme of the venue.”
