Last week, PPG Industries (Pittsburgh) announced a number of personnel changes, including the retirement of executive vice president Viktor Sekmakas.

Sekmakas' History

Sekmakas has been with the company for 20 years, working in leadership roles in the company’s automotive, industrial and packaging sectors, along with the Asia Pacific, and Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

PPG Industries

PPG has announced the retirement of executive vice president Viktor Sekmakas.

Sekmakas joined PPG in 1997 as a market development manager. He moved through a series of leadership roles, and in 2010 he assumed the role of senior vice president, adding responsibility to the global packaging coatings business and becoming a member of the operating committee. In the following years, he moved from Hong Kong to Rolle, Switzerland, as senior vice president for industrial coatings, and became president of PPG Europe. In 2012, Sekmakas was named executive vice president.

According to PPG, Sekmakas played an important role in the company's moves to divest of its glass units and to enter the coating application business.

“Viktor has truly been a dynamic global leader for PPG. He has played a key role in expanding our global businesses and operations; strengthening many important customer relationships; and developing new, more efficient and effective business processes,” said PPG Chairman and CEO Michael McGarry.

Sekmakas' retirement will take effect Sept. 30.

Leadership Changes

In other personnel matters, PPG announced that Tim Knavish will move into the position of senior vice president, industrial coatings, taking the place of Shelley Bausch, who is leaving the company. Knavish currently serves as the senior vice president of automotive coatings, and will take over PPG’s packaging coatings and coatings services businesses, managing the global supply and the Asia Pacific region.

Gary Danowski currently serves as the vice president of operations of automotive coatings, but will be moving into the role of vice president of the automotive coatings segment.

Like Sekmakas’ retirement, these leadership changes will take effect Sept. 30.
