The Architects' Journal reported Monday that it had confirmed with the Ministry that glass panels recently fell from the Manchester Civil Justice Centre.

The Architects' Journal reported Monday (Aug. 21) that it had confirmed with the Ministry that glass panels recently fell from the Manchester Civil Justice Centre.

A spokesperson told the publication that three panels had broken last month and that some fragments fell down to the public space below, but noted that the panels had since been fixed and the 10-year-old building was inspected.

The building, designed by Denton Corker Marshall, opened in 2007. Having achieved a BREEAM rating of excellence, the project went on to receive multiple awards including the Royal Institute of British Architects National Award for Architecture and the RIBA Sustainability Award, and was shortlisted for the 2008 Stirling Prize.

In addition to the unique truss design and anti-vibration beam, the building’s arguably greatest feature is the atrium, which incorporates 6,200 glass panes.

The project’s contractor, Lendlease, has said that it will be meeting at the site to discuss if anything further needs addressed.
