The expanded facility includes a new paint application lab, and environmentally controlled drying areas for the conditioning of test panels.

The expansion took place over a three-year period, according to the company, and included the addition of a dedicated space for experimental paint making, a new paint application lab and environmentally controlled drying areas for the conditioning of test panels. The facility grew by more than 20 percent, from about 8,235 square feet to about 10,075 square feet.

The facility also features enhanced chemical resistance testing equipment for the company’s Ceilcote and Environline lining ranges. According to AkzoNobel, the lab, which plays a role in the development of both protective coatings and specialty architectural coatings, employs about 40 scientists.

North American Specialization

“Our new state-of-the-art research and development facilities in Houston enhance our unique capability of developing and delivering product innovations that meet the specific performance requirements of our North American customers, while providing a more rewarding work environment for our employees,” said AkzoNobel’s Steve Feldman, vice president for Protective Coatings North America.
