Valspar has rolled out what the company calls a “first-of-its-kind” line of regional exterior paints.

In three formulations, the Valspar Reserve Extreme Weather Paint + Primer line aims to provide long-lasting exterior protection against the elements. Split up into different regional paints—SunStopper Technology, RainRelief Technology and SeasonFlex Technology—the collection aims to be able to protect the building’s exterior, regardless of climate.

“This update to the Valspar Reserve line represents an unprecedented category innovation,” said Heidi Petz, vice president of marketing for Valspar. “We pursued its development after Consumer Insights found that homeowners were looking for a durable paint to address their area’s unique weather conditions, and further research helped us to define three distinct weather zones comprising the nation.

“We are proud to provide such a high degree of customized solutions and are continually investing in formulations that raise the bar and set new standards for helping consumers achieve the best possible results, every step of the way.”

All of the paints retain what the Reserve line already had to offer, the company says, referring to its One-Coat Protection, HydroChroma Technology and wide color selection. In addition, though, each paint has some special characteristics based on the region.

Each paint has some special characteristics based on the region. As this map denotes, the RainRelief Technology is recommended for the regions shaded in blue, the SunStopper Technology for the region in orange and the SeasonFlex Technology for the region in black.

  • The SunStopper Technology has what the company calls “sunscreen for homes.” The one-coat protection, combined with a unique formula, act to block color-fading UV rays and sun damage, as well as work to prevent peeling, cracking and chalking. The paint is aimed for the southwestern region of the United States, such as New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, southern California and Texas.
  • The RainRelief Technology is aimed at regions that experience frequent rain and humidity. The company says this paint has a long-lasting, mildew-resistant finish that locks out moisture “for a storm-tight seal and creates a thick flexible barrier that bridges hairline cracks and defies peeling for enhanced longevity.” Regions that the company says would benefit from this paint are parts of the northwest and the southeast, including not only Washington and Oregon, but Florida, Georgia and the surrounding states as well.
  • The SeasonFlex Technology is designed for the entire spectrum, the company says, accumulating both the mold and mildew protection and the peeling and fading resistance of the other two paints in the line. This paint is aimed at the regions that see all seasons and dramatic temperature and climate changes, mainly the Midwest and Northeast.

All paints in the line are 100 percent acrylic latex, low odor and low VOC. The SunStopper Technology also features exceptional washability, the company says, while the RainRelief can be applied in low temperatures, and the SeasonFlex accommodates both.

The line is recommended to be used on prepared exterior wood and metal siding, fiber cement board, vinyl, primed metal, brick, cement, cinder block and stucco, among others.

Brilliant idea ! .International companies formulate to conditions in their global geographic areas so why not N America where there are such varied exterior climate conditions.

I live on the dividing line between "Southwest" and "Southeast" in Texas on that map, so it would make more sense for me to get SeasonFlex, which apparently won't be available here...
