Buckle up! A mansion incorporating the 2,500-square-foot wing of a Boeing 747 in California has been deemed one of “The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes,” by a BBC television show by the same name.

The idea for the so-called “Wing House” took flight after architect David Hertz, of Studio of Environmental Architecture, envisioned a floating curved roof.

Yes, that's a disused airplane wing atop a mansion in Malibu, California.

“It soon became apparent, that in fact, an airplane wing itself could work,” Hertz writes in a project description on the firm’s website.

So, at less than $50,000, he acquired a disused plane and employed a helicopter to drop the wing in place, creating a stunning hillside property in Malibu. Hertz notes that he had to register the roof with the Federal Aviation Administration so that pilots wouldn’t mistakenly think the roof was a downed aircraft.

Additional parts of the plane were also recycled including the cockpit and engine components.
