Domingue Architectural Finishes (Houston) has made its official debut in the United States’ architectural finishes scene with a collection of lime wash, mineral paint and plasters.

Billed as “the finest collection of architectural finishes available in the U.S.,” the comprehensive line can be applied to most exterior and interior surfaces, according to product literature.

The series of products, including lime wash, mineral paint and plasters, are all derived from lime. In Europe, lime products have not fallen out of fashion, according to the company. Now, such products are available for U.S. customers.

Additionally, the products are boasted as “natural, harmless to our environment, and unrivaled in beauty, coloration, purity and durability.”

According to the company, the line includes the following:

  • Lime Wash: Described as a ready-mixed, mineral-based architectural topcoat that provides a soft nuanced finish. It features three ingredients—lime putty, mineral pigments and water—and is available in 140 colors.

  • Mineral Paint: A ready-mixed finish coat said to deliver a traditional matte finish prized for its depth of color, luminosity and durability. Composed of mineral pigments in a binder of “liquid glass” (a.k.a. natural liquid potassium silicate), the paint can be bright, deep, clear and fade-resistant. It is also available in 140 colors.

  • Collection of Plasters: Derived from limestone quarried and slaked in Northern Italy, the lime-based plasters reportedly cover every possible need and style, from rustic to smooth, traditional to contemporary. For instance, medium grain options can be used as mortar or as a base coat of a floor or wall. The finer grain plasters can be used to achieve classic marmorino and tadelakt finishes.

‘A Game Changer’

The line was the conceived by Ruth Gay of Chateau Domingue (Houston) in partnership with Eddy Dankers of Dankers Décor Belgium.

“In my experience, Americans are open and experimental, as well as great appreciators of European heritage,” said Dankers, an artisan painter and plasterer who has created finishes for projects by well-known interior designer Axel Vervoodt. “I’ve long wanted to introduce these materials to the U.S. market but the right partner was critical.”

Gay, who has spent more than 16 years combing Europe for architectural antiques as a proprietor for Chateau Domingue, said she was swept away by Danker’s work with paints and plasters as well as the products themselves.

“It was immediately obvious to me that these products would be industry game changers in the U.S.,” Gay said.

The two were joined by Eve Ashcraft, a New York-based architectural color specialist. Ashcraft has been behind numerous paint palettes, including Ralph Lauren Paint and Martha Stewart Collections.

She created the 140 color options for the Domingue Architectural Finishes Lime Wash and Mineral Paint.

The products are available through purchase directly through the company’s showroom in Houston.
