Though most of today’s buildings are designed on the computer, a San Francisco architect’s hand-drawn sketches may make you long for the days of old.

Cocktail napkins, anyone?

Dan Hogman is out to inspire creativity and critical thinking with his sketches, according to a recent profile in San Francisco Chronicle.

His drawings and photography have prompted more than 55,000 people to like his Facebook page; and just under 95,000 to follow him on Instagram. (Images posted © Dan Hogman).

“There are countless buildings that are worth taking a second look,” he told the paper. He’s drawn numerous buildings in his travels, but most of them are in and around San Francisco, a place he’s called home for nearly a decade.

For Hogman, the process of drawing is more compelling than the location or building. “There is a certain dialogue that happens between pen, paper and location, and I feel compelled to be a part of it," he told the paper. He has occasionally captured this process on video.

By day, Hogman is a practicing architect, “committing random and occasionally interesting acts of design,” according to his website. He focuses on a variety of project types including, high-rise residential, commercial and mixed-use.
