Laticrete has introduced Fracture Ban, described as a high-performance, pliable, lightweight peel and stick membrane designed for use under thin-bed adhesives for ceramic tile; stone; and other hard surface installations.

The reinforced high-strength membrane is an anti-fracture and acoustical underlayment that reduces stresses from a substrate while decreasing the transmission of sound from the floor to the room below it, according to the company.

Applications include floors in residential or commercial settings, such as an apartment building; office; or hospital.

The high-strength membrane is an anti-fracture and acoustical underlayment that reduces stresses from a substrate while decreasing the transmission of sound, Laticrete says.

Laticrete says the product can be used on almost any substrate, including concrete slabs; cement mortar beds; exterior glue plywood; precast floor panels; gypsum underlayments; radiant heated floors; ceramic tile; terrazzo; stone; self-leveling and patching compounds; backer board; and, existing VAT, VCT and vinyl floors.

Fracture Ban comes in 40 mil (FRACTURE BAN 40) and 90 mil (FRACTURE BAN 90) thicknesses. Both are tested to ANSI A118.12 (anti-fracture) and ANSI A118.13 (sound reduction) specifications, the company says.

New Membrane, New Primer

A corresponding product—Francture Ban Primer—debuted at the same time, according to Laticrete.

The product is a concentrated premium-quality, water-based primer designed to be applied prior to the installation of the substrate membrane. This multipurpose primer may be broom-, roller- or spray-applied and can be used on the same range of substrates as the membrane, the company said.

The primer comes in 1-, 5- and 245-gallon containers and is designed to be diluted with 1 gallon of water per 1 gallon of product (which covers approximately 285 square feet), Laticrete says.
