Two building product manufacturers have teamed up to introduce the first integrated gypsum sheathing panel with a factory-applied fluid air-barrier membrane.

USG Corp. and Tremco Commercial Sealants & Waterproofing have unveiled the Securock ExoAir 430 System—an integration of USG’s Securock Brand Glass-Mat Sheathing Panels and Tremco’s ExoAir membrane.

USG Corp.

The membrane and gypsum panel combination sets the stage for new expectations in the construction industry, according to the companies.

Billed as a “first of its kind” system, the product “simplifies the installation process and eliminates many traditional application challenges like weather impact, material waste and performance variances, while improving jobsite scheduling concerns,” the companies said in a joint announcement.

Coating Process, Accreditation

In a controlled environment, the air/water barrier coating is applied to the glass-mat faced, moisture and mold-resistant gypsum sheathing panel, the companies explained.

This process results in “a uniform membrane with superior bond to the substrate,” the companies said.

Progressive Engineering Inc. and Underwriters Laboratory have accredited Securock ExoAir 430 System for code compliance and fire-resistance performance, Tremco and USG noted.

First released in the Southeast U.S., the system will roll out to other regions in the coming months, the companies said.
