ROSEMONT, IL—Keeping the industry up to date on roofing's changing technologies, the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) has released The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roof Systems – 2015.

The new guide updates the 2011 volume of the same title, serving as a reference for contractors, architects and roof consultants.

The 2015 manual provides best practices and technical information about the design, materials and installation techniques for membrane roof systems used in low-slope applications.

The NRCA manual focuses on membrane roof systems used in low-slope applications. Among the many brands now on the market is GAF's Self-Adhering Roofing System.

Also included is information about roof decks, air and vapor retarders, rigid board insulation, roof membranes, fasteners, surfacing, accessories, roof system configurations and roof re-coverings.

A new format facilitates proper product and material selection, according to NRCA. The first chapter contains a selection of roof system configurations. Each of those has a list of applicable roof components with references on where to find additional information in the manual.

Also included are 203 construction details for built-up roof (BUR) membrane, polymer-modified bitumen, liquid-applied, EPDM and other single-ply membrane roof systems.

NRCA recommends the use of the new membrane roof systems volume with others in The NRCA Manual line.

The new volume is available with three others in the NRCA Roofing Manual series as a boxed set.

Those volumes are:

  • Architectural Metal Flashing, Condensation and Air Leakage Control, and Reroofing – 2014;
  • Steep-slope Roof Systems – 2013; and
  • SPF Roof Systems – 2012.

Each volume is intended to be updated every four years. All four volumes can be purchased in a boxed set; they are also available in electronic versions.

NRCA is the voice of the roofing industry for information, education, technology and advocacy. It represents all segments of the roofing industry, including contractors, manufacturers, distributors, architects, consultants, engineers, building owners and government agencies.
