Smells Like Architectural Spirit

Architects worldwide have a new club, and admission is only $190.

That’s what you’ll shell out for a 100 ml (3.4 ounce) bottle of "The Architects Club," a new cologne from architect-turned-fragrance-entrepreneur Carlos Huber.

We don't know what architects smell like (blueprint base notes with curtain wall top notes?), but it apparently involves smoke, gin and a lot of vanilla.

Cocktails and Art Deco

Here's Huber's pitch:

The Architects Club evokes 1930s-era "fashionable youth with gin martinis and vanilla cigarettes."

"Cocktail time, March 1930, London. A group of architects gather for cocktails at Mayfair’s smartest Art Deco smoking room. As they settle in the warm interior of dark woods, leather and velvet, London’s bright young things burst in, frosted martinis in hand, surrounded by a cloud of laughter, white smoke and fine vanilla."

He describes the fragrance as "a comforting, smoky vanilla with an amber woody base and a cool dry gin opening."

Developed with French perfumer Yann Vasnier, the fragrance was "inspired upon reading the story of Claridge’s renovation in the late 1920s by two famous Art Deco architects: Oswald Milne and Basil Ionides," says the Arquiste website. "By 1930, it contained some of the city’s most brilliant Art Deco interiors."

Bright and Moody

The perfume "focuses on the contrast between the Victorian exterior and the new, sparkly interiors."

The Architects Club comes from Mexican-born architect-turned-fragrance-entrepreneur Carlos Huber.

"As the renovation work finished, architects would gather for a drink and a smoke and admire the stylish design of velvet, leather panel walls, exotic woods and frosted glass panels. The sudden irruption of the city’s fashionable youth, with gin martinis, and vanilla cigarettes in hand, adds zing and freshness to the composition."

The fragrance is "serious and fun, young and mature, bright and moody, crisp and warm, academic and playful, universal and elegant."

All of which makes us very excited about the potential for new scents for other colleagues: Specifier Splendor,   Essence of Engineer and, exclusively for the job site, Eau de portable toilette.
