Building products maker National Gypsum has introduced a new line of high-performance roof boards for low-sloped commercial roofing systems.

The new DEXcell brand family consists of three products:

  • DEXcell Glass Mat Roof Board;
  • DEXcell FA Glass Mat Roof Board; and
  • DEXcell Cement Roof Board.

3 Products

All three DEXcell products are designed for use as a cover board and/or thermal barrier in commercial roofing applications. Each is four feet wide and available in four-foot and eight-foot lengths.

Three types of roof boards make up the new DEXcell line: Glass Mat, FA Glass Mat, and Cement.

DEXcell Glass Mat Roof Board is suited for mechanically fastened roof systems and has coated fiberglass facers with an enhanced gypsum core.

DEXcell FA Glass Mat Roof Board, designed for fully adhered roof systems, is manufactured with heavy-duty coated fiberglass facers with an enhanced gypsum core.

Both the Glass Mat and FA Glass Mat products are mold-resistant and available in quarter-inch, half-inch and 5/8-inch thicknesses. Both products score and cut easily and are coated on the front, back and sides for easy handling, the company says.

DEXcell Cement Roof Board is a lightweight moisture- and mold-resistant cement board that provides a fire barrier and a thermal barrier. These boards are manufactured of Portland cement, lightweight aggregate and glass mesh designed to deliver an exceptionally hard, durable surface.

DEXcell Cement Roof Boards come in 7/16-inch thickness.

Testing and Manufacturing

The new DEXcell products have undergone "rigorous third-party testing,” said Chuck Hockensmith, product manager, specialty systems and product development.

“DEXcell products carry a number of approvals and meet various industry standards to resist mold and provide a fire barrier for commercial structures such as schools, hospitals and hotels.”

The Charlotte, NC-based company, one of the largest gypsum board manufacturers in North America, will manufacture DEXcell in its own network of more than 40 plants across the U.S. and Canada, said Jay Watt, director of marketing.
