America’s Best Bathroom is one where patrons can use the can and buy a can.

Yes, bartenders serve drinks along the back counter inside the Varsity Theater restroom—the Minneapolis, MN, loo crowned the "2013 King of Thrones" in Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest Tuesday (Nov. 19).

Opened in 2005, the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, MN, has been crowned America's Best Restroom.

The venue won online public favor with its curvy brick walls, sinks operated by foot-pedal, a co-ed hand wash area and ornate mirrors.

It’s a place where visitors are asked to spend a short time “immersed in a make-believe world, leaving their cares behind […] in a social way,” according to Varsity Theater’s owner and general manager Jason McLean.

The sinks were designed with shower head faucets with foot pedal operation.

Varsity Theater, formerly The University Theater, was one of the last vaudeville houses in Minneapolis and hosted minstrel shows, comedians and screenings of early silent films in its heydey.

Competition for the Throne

The concert hall’s restroom beat out nine other contenders, including a “Pac Man” potty inside an arcade in Oregon and public glass bathroom on a town square in Texas, for the top seat.

This "Pac Man" themed restroom in Portland, OR, was crowned No. 2.

The “Pac Man” potty and public glass bathroom came in No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in the contest that attracted thousands of online votes.

No. 3 in this years contest was a public (we'd say) restroom in the town square in Sulphur Springs, TX.

“The team at Varsity Theater understands the value of a well-maintained and memorable restroom,” said John Engel, Cintas’ senior marketing manager. “What they have is more than a creative concept. It’s an effective business tool that keeps people coming back.”

Cintas launched the America’s Best Restroom Contest in 2002 to honor businesses across the country that consider hygiene and style top priorities. View the Hall of Fame here.

Voting for its sister contest, Canada’s Best Restroom, is open through Nov. 30.
