Joe, I need your help in determining the right paint to use to repaint our Theme Trash Receptacles that are built of galvanized steel. They were painted with a metal spray paint when they were new which has now virtually all disappeared and before we get them repainted by an artist I want to be sure we use the best metal paint for Galvanized Steel. See the Trash Receptacles on the website please: www.historicmuralsofsanangelo.org. Thanks in advances for your assistance. Susan, although you indicate that the old paint has weathered away for the most part, if some of it remains after you prepare the surface, a test patch should be applied to confirm that the new paint doesn’t soften or lift it. Regarding products - since it appears that the receptacles are being used outdoors, an epoxy primer will work well, which can be finished with a polyurethane for color and UV resistance. You may also want to consider a polyurethane clear coat to better preserve the color. Another coating that adheres well to prepared galvanize is acrylic. The manufacturer of the finish coats that will be applied by your artist will be able to identify a suitable primer in their line. Ken
