Very well presented. It will inspire some careful consideration of design parameters in the future.

Quality control by the manufacturer at the plant is not always up to par. I work and live in the same area as Tatley-Grund and have witnessed this first hand. Evidence suggests the occurence described regarding vinyl window quality is common but may go undetected for years. Speed of production sometimes trumps quality. Vinyl windows are handled several times from plant to site and finally to the installation location. Plenty of opportunity exists to break a corner miter joint. Anecdotal evidence from the field suggests that 20-40 % of units delivered to the site come with manufacturing defects, primarily at corner miters. Best practice interface with the adjacent construction will not solve a damaged frame but it will provide a path to direct water intrusion out. Good article that should be mandatory reading for all parties (Owner, Architect, Contractor, window manufacturer, installers).
