Thanks Gillian for your concise synopsis and illustration of F. Mahnke's philosophy. Your descriptions make it very accessible, removing some of the mystery of why our color choices are so personal. I certainly agree that "recipes" and generalizations about color are so misleading when it comes to making effective color decisions. This is at the heart of what we do in the IACC approach to color design.

Excellent explanation for a difficult subject! So challenging to do, but so immensely rewarding to do well.

Nice article. I feel like handing this to all of my clients. I often work with an Italian fan deck that uses numbers instead of names for its colors. I can't tell you how much better that is than "Cowboy Hat" and "Mystic Sunset". Also, as paint companies compete with each other, they load fan decks up with colors where the differences in a room would be unreadable even by a color expert like me. That concept is very difficult to relay to clients as well.

Great article, color has been a recent topic of conversation for painters trying to offer more services to customers, many of us realize that we need educated professionals such as yourself to help customers make those decisions. Thanks for a great article to show that!
