While this appears to be a fantastic solution to the "rough" thin film fireproofing, it appears to not be cost effective in that cost of protection during shipping, erection and field protection may offset the initial savings. Has anyone done a fair cost comparison between the factory application and the field application?

Great comment Stephen and let me clarify a key point. The intumescent castings are factory manufactured, shipped to the project site and then installed in the field. The castings are not installed at the fabrication or coating plant. However, the field savings can be significant due to installation speed, "dry" applcation vs. spraying wet paint and scheduling logistics. You can have multiple trades working simultaneously vs. sequentialy. So, this solution satisfies the architectural requirements and works with the GC to save time and money.
